DC: National Academy of Sciences "Imagining Deep Time"

  • National Academy of Sciences 2101 Constitution Ave NW Washington, DC, 20418 United States (map)

This exhibition represents an area where rational and intuitive thinking come together to explore the question of how we relate to the vastness of time. The answer suggested by the artwork suggests that we do so through a combination of visual metaphors (cycles, circles, arrows, trajectories) and visual evidence (rock formations, strata, fossils of fauna and flora) while being mediated through various technologies and media. This exhibition explores the usefulness as well as the limitations of the visualization of deep time.

Artists featured include Chul Hyun Ahn, Alfredo Arreguin, Diane Burko, Alison Carey, Terry Falke, Sharon Harper, Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe, Rosalie Lang, David Maisel, Semiconductor, Rachel Sussman, and Jonathon Wells.
